‘R k n-str k sh n’ is the phonetic representation of the word reconstruction.
The working method adopted for this interior is known as ‘R k n-str k sh n’, an approach inspired by the Dogma 95 manifesto, the Vow of Chastity, where the Dogma collective of filmmakers agreed to observe a set of ten strict rules, or dogmas.
The point of departure was to use the former interior as basis for an entirely new décor. The working procedure and ‘design process’ originated from the reuse of elements from the original interior; no shop drawings were made.
The area was partially stripped and the salvaged materials reused. The colours the new interior, for example, came about by removing or rotating these materials. New displays and seating elements were created from parts of the original ceiling and wall panelling and the old wall and shelving units. The architectural modifications and changes were dictated by the dimensions of the materials used. Style, shape and colours developed from the working procedure on location.
